Learning that light painting is harder than it looks!

As a photographer, I am constantly learning.  Whilst there are some areas of photography that I feel comfortable with,  there are others at which I am definitely still very much a novice. Light paining, it seems, is one of them.

I have always been intrigued by light painting and the endless possibilities of long exposure shots and moving lights. I recently read an article which showed a light painting technique that I hadn’t seen before: orb light painting.  Mesmerising and perfectly spherical orbs hovering above the ground and illuminating their surroundings. Not, as mine turned out, messy and resembling balls of string!

The results were disappointing but I thought that I would share them with you all the same because the process was so much fun.  Sometimes you just have to throw caution to the wind and give something new a try.  I had immense fun giving it a go but it turns out that orb light painting is definitely more difficult than it looks!
